Current Projects

Service Projects

During the past year, the ladies of the Junior Auxiliary of Wayne County contributed over 500 volunteer hours to benefit the children of Wayne County.

Below is a list of service projects performed by the Junior Auxiliary of Wayne County.

Summer Reading Program (June)
This program is held during June at the Waynesboro Memorial Library. JA members provide and help serve refreshments during the weekly meetings. We serve juice and healthy snacks to the children in attendance.

Kids' Nuts about Fitness Day (July)

This event is held each year in July at the Waynesboro Memorial Library. It is usually two hours long and JA members along with the Wayne County Extension Office provide a program for children about being healthy. We do exercises, worksheets, and provide healthy snacks.

Operation Backpack (August)

This program is usually held on the first Saturday in August at the Waynesboro Wal-Mart entrances from 9 am until 12 pm. Members work intervals at each table requesting donations. All school supplies collected are sorted and donated to each area school for needy children.

Crisis Pregnancy Center/Waynesboro Family Medicine (September)

We collect items for local locations for mothers/children who are in need and in times of crisis.

New Life Food Drive (November)
Our members donate pantry items to our local shelter during the month of November.

Toy Drive (December)
We ask active, associate, and lifetime members to donate toys for distribution to local needy children during the month of December.

Teacher Supplies (January)Since the majority of our members are teachers, we help replenish their commonly used classroom supplies such as Kleenex, Germ-X, and antibacterial wipes for use during the winter months.

Heart Smart (February)
JA presents the HeartSmart program to all Wayne County 1st graders during the month of February, usually close to Valentine’s Day. During this program, members do a quick exercise with the kids and give out worksheets, stickers, and pencils.  In 2012, we added a Heart Smart coloring contest and awarded ribbons to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners at each school.

Read Across America (March)
Our members participate at Read Across America celebrations at our area schools.

Fun in the Sun with JA (April)
JA sponsors a booth at Waynesboro's Annual Whistlestop Booth in April. We focused on sun safety during the summer months. We gave out sunscreen samples, stickers, and bubbles. The children who stopped by our booth were also able to make free visors to wear in the sun.

Adopt-a-Family

We adopt a family in need each year from May until April. We try to pick a family that one of the ladies knows their situation personally or that is referred to us by DHS. We provide school clothes for the children of the family along with a back to school trip to the mall, movies, and a restaurant. We provide some school supplies for the children and also help with school fees, if needed. We also help provide a Thanksgiving/Christmas meal for the family, and also give the children some of the toys from our Annual Toy Gathering along with birthday presents. We try to help this family as we best see fit throughout the year.

Finance Projects
In order to perform all of our service projects, Junior Auxiliary works hard to raise our funds necessary to complete these projects. Our finance projects include:

CookFlips
We are currently in our 4th year of production on the CookFlips. These are small recipe books that sell for $5 each. Members contribute recipes each year with a different topic and we sell the books to the public. This year's theme is Desserts with past editions being Appetizers, Soups & Salads, and Main Courses/Casseroles.

Yard Sale
Our Yard Sale is held each November on the first Saturday of the month at the Waynesboro Auditorium. We collect items from members throughout the year for this huge event. Last year, we raised over $1000 at our Yard Sale.

Silver Spoons Blueberry Afternoons
We are currently selling this NAJA cookbook as an extra fundraiser for this year.

Business Sponsor Letters
We ask local Wayne County businesses to sponsor us with any donation. See our Donations page for more information.

Bridge and Bingo
This is our big Spring fundraiser. Members decorate tables, buy small favors, and make recipes of given recipes for the event. Members are asked to help work on the day of the event which includes a meal, bridge, bingo, and a silent auction. The event lasts from 12 pm until around 2:30 pm. Tables are set up the day before, and it is a wonderful event for ladies all around the county to attend. Tickets are sold previous to the event for $20 each.

Candles
Celebrating Home candles are sold each October to the community for delivery before Christmas.
